When you walk into Sadie’s of New Mexico, you notice the energy first. Before the chips and salsa hit the table, you notice that everything feels familiar–like you’re sitting down to dinner at a big family reunion. Glasses clink, people laugh, and the smell of classic comfort food floats through the air. But it’s not the location, the food, or the margaritas that makes Sadie’s feel like home– it’s the people filling tables, pouring drinks, and serving baskets of tostada chips.

At Sadie’s of New Mexico, our community is what makes us great. For over 70 years, you’ve supported our family as we’ve grown from a 9-stool burger stand to a restaurant seating 300 people. We’ve put down plates of papitas for 100-person parties, served salsa for small celebrations and catered for quarterbacks. Since you’ve supported us for so long, it’s our turn to give back.

Nothing says ‘Fall in New Mexico’ like the smell of local green chile, roasted to perfection, to be eaten fresh or frozen until fall rolls back around. Sadie’s knows a thing or two about green chile that’s good year-round– our chopped green chile, green chile salsa, and green chile sauce have been grocery-store favorites for over 20 years. But there’s nothing that beats freshly roasted green chile–and knowing you’re helping your community while doing it.

This September, we’re giving back the New Mexican way. So mark your calendars: on September 26th, Sadie’s will host the first annual Chile for Charity green chile roast, in partnership with The Grief Center!

What is Chile for Charity?

Chile for Charity is the first of a new tradition. Each year, Sadie’s will commit to partnering with a local nonprofit organization who seeks to  improve, serve, and support the NM community.

Sadie’s will roast and sell locally raised green chile, and donate a portion of the proceeds to our nonprofit partner. Chile will be sold  for $8 per pound, in 1 or 5 pound bags. There’s no limit on how much chile you can buy at once– except how much you can carry.

The first Chile for Charity will take place on Saturday, September 26th, beginning at 11am, and end at 2:00 PM, or when the chile runs out!

What is The Grief Center?

We are proud to announce that Sadie’s of New Mexico has partnered with The Grief Center for the first annual Chile for Charity!

Since its opening in 2001, the Grief Center spends weekday evenings hosting support group services to individuals and families experiencing grief from the loss of a loved one. These services don’t stop at support groups. The Grief Center provides training for professionals who assist individuals experiencing loss, a 3-day sleepaway camp for school-age children who have lost an important person, and online webinars on how to support individuals going through the grieving process.

Support services are provided at no charge, so no grieving individual faces a financial barrier to support. This is made possible by donations from individual donors and corporate partnerships.

If you cannot attend the Chile for Charity, but still want to support The Grief Center’s Mission–don’t worry, there are other ways to help.

Go to  http://griefnm.org/donate/ or the official Grief Center website: http://griefnm.org/

At these pages, you can make direct donations with a credit card, or find information about in-kind donations, donations from IRAS or stock accounts, and planned giving.

Chile for Charity is more than just an opportunity to stock up on your favorite chile for the year– it’s a way to combine all the things that make our state, our restaurant, and our family great.  Come support your community the most New Mexican way we know how: lending a hand over roasted chile—and maybe a plate of enchiladas, frijoles, and papitas while you’re here.

Stop by and see us September 26th, at 11 AM, and support the NM community with Chile for Charity!
